The Doom Patrol consists of heroes who received their abilities through disastrous events and are generally rejected by society. They reside in a mansion under the care of Niles Caulder, a medical doctor known as the Chief, who originally formed an earlier version of the team. The first members introduced were Jane, the dominant identity of a traumatized woman with dissociative identity disorder; Rita Farr, whose body turns gelatinous; Larry Trainor, containing a negative energy entity; and Cliff Steele, a man with his brain in a robot body. Later, cybernetic hero Vic Stone and shapeshifter Madame Rouge joined the group. Their story arcs often reveal dark secrets about the Chief, who is responsible for the tragic events that granted them their powers.

In Their Own Story

In the first season, the Chief was captured by the malevolent Mr. Nobody, an omnipresent villain capable of altering reality and breaking the fourth wall. The team journeyed to rescue him, uncovering secrets about themselves and learning the truth about the Chief's role in their tragedies. Season two introduced Dorothy Spinner, the Chief's daughter who can bring imaginary friends to life. While facing personal dilemmas, Dorothy inadvertently endangered the world by threatening to unleash an ancient entity known as the Candlemaker. The third season saw the climax of this battle and the death of the Chief from old age, though his ally Willoughby Kipling salvaged his head. Madame Rouge arrived in a time machine, leading the team on a new path involving the Brotherhood of Evil. The final season focused on heroic activities while dealing with Immortus and the imminent Buttpocalypse.
